Outrage as app that permits teenagers to exchange texts and naked photos with nearby strangers booms in popularity
Yellow encourages youthfull users to ‘swipe’ nearby strangers before sending snaps
A Fresh dating app described as "Tinder for teenagers" has been used by children to send naked snaps to each other, leading to outrage among parents.
Yellow, which is available on Apple and Android smartphones, is growing in popularity among school-age teenagers who use it to talk and send pictures to friends and strangers.
It is similar to dating app Tinder in that it permits people to connect with others based on their location, with users 'swiping' to accept or decline talking to someone based on their profile picture.
It is linked to photo-sharing app Snapchat, which permits users to send improvised pictures that vanish after no longer than ten seconds.
As soon as two users swipe to accept each other, they are automatically added as "friends" on Snapchat, meaning they can begin sending each other photos right away — even if they don't know each other.
A schoolgirl in Limerick, Ireland — where the app is taking off — told the Irish Mirror: “People would send nudes and underwear pictures, boys and ladies both – it’s mostly used to text and get pictures from each other".

Catherine Fitzgerald, Chairperson of the Parents’ Association at Salesian Secondary College Pallaskenry, Co Limerick, said apps like Yellow are “extremely worrying”.
She also said that it’s significant for parents to remain vigilant, albeit she acknowledged it was difficult.
“Snapchat is a very hard one for parents to monitor, because the pictures more or less delete themselves.
“Then again, it says it’ll delete them after a duo of seconds, but that’s not always what happens — if they’re quick enough, they’ll screenshot it,” she said.
A police spokesperson said: "Our advice would be for people not to share any private information with strangers online”.
