Yahoo! provides Messenger software for live talking. Anyone with a computer and Internet access can download this software and use it to communicate with other Messenger users by voice, movie and talk. Several users with a computer and webcam can also get together at the same time and do a multiple-person movie conference. The Yahoo! Messenger client makes this possible by use of a conference-calling system and webcam broadcast technology. Users can just click a few buttons and communicate around the world with other conference participants.
1. Instruct all participants of the multiple-person movie conference to download Yahoo! Messenger and create an account. There is a download link on the Messenger home page. Those with existing Yahoo! accounts can use that account’s username and password. Others can get an account by clicking on the "Get a Fresh Yahoo! ID" link in the Messenger client.
Two. Collect the Yahoo! Messenger usernames of all conference participants. Distribute this list of usernames to everyone who will be on the conference call.
Three. Instruct the participants to add everyone’s username to their Messenger friends list. Messenger users should click "Contacts" at the top of the Messenger client and then click "Add a Contact" to add the other participants. The other members will then receive a message to accept the invitation to be added. As the conference arranger, you also need to add everyone on your own friends list.
Four. Set a time for the multiple-person movie conference. Instruct all participants to be at a computer with a webcam and audio. Those without a webcam or even audio can still participate, but they may only use text talk to communicate.
Five. Click on "Deeds" and "Invite to Conference" in Yahoo! Messenger. You can then invite members on your friends list to join the conference and select whether to permit voice talk for this call. They will receive an invitation and can accept it to join in on the multi-person movie conference.
6. Instruct all members to click on "Messenger" and "My Webcam." This puts a "View My Webcam" link next to their name on each participants’ friends list. Conference participants can then click on that to request to see the inviting person’s webcam. This step is necessary because the Yahoo! Messenger conference is for voice talk. However, when combining the webcam broadcast feature, the group can do movie, voice and text talk at the same time.
